“House flipping is when someone buys a property and holds onto it for a short time and then sells it (the flip part) in the hopes of making a profit. Instead of buying a home to live in, you’re buying a home as a real estate investment.”

Always wanted to flip property but didn’t know where to start?

I’m sure you’ve watched HGTV and all the flipping shows. They make it seem so fun and easy on TV. Just pick a house, place a bid, win, and start picking colors and cabinets, and then a huge profit awaits at the end, right? Not so fast.

Flipping property is lane within real estate that is its own discipline and concentration. It is multi-layered and much more complex that what it is made to be on TV. From the numbers, to the actual construction, it is more than just “paint and carpet”.

Feel like you need a guide to get started?

There is so much to learn and know about flipping. I highly advise that you get a mentor, or someone willing to help guide you through the process as there are many traps and pitfalls awaiting newbie investors who are eager to get started. There isn’t a single successful person I know in real estate who hasn’t wished aloud that they had a mentor to help them in the beginning. Speeding up your processes and eliminating wastes of time can and will be invaluable for someone just starting out. If you are to be in this business long-term, you must invest in yourself and your education. I only became able to help others by helping myself to begin with. You must do the same in order to move forward, and to compete at any level of this game. Whether it be myself, a course you buy, or a mentor you obtain through a REIA meetup, please seek professional and experienced advise before beginning any real estate investment.
